Sanjay brings judgment, and a business perspective to the law gained from working within a successful technology company as part of the team that aggressively grew the business, and then took it public.

From October 2007 until November 2010, Sanjay was asked to come back to be part of the Executive Team, and head of the Legal Department of Trapeze Software, Inc. (“Trapeze”), a subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc., a public company listed on the TSX Exchange.  Sanjay drove rapid growth of the corporate patent program, was integral to rapid growth of the company due to significant acquisitions, and oversaw complex litigation.  Sanjay managed a legal team covering businesses in Canada, England, Europe, the United States and Australia with regards to legal issues related to strategy, sales, procurement, leasing, litigation, intellectual property, privacy, employment and regulatory issues.

Between August 2006 and November 2007 Sanjay provided services to a number of large Canadian private technology corporations, was invested in the startup Snailmailme, and worked for a large US public company listed on the NYSE.

From September 2002 until August 2006, Sanjay was In-House Counsel for Trapeze.  He was closely involved with taking the company public in 2006.  He developed licensing and contracting strategies, negotiated hundreds of transactions, provided procurement reviews, managed the company’s commercial leasing, negotiated partnering, mergers and acquisition issues, integrated licensing and support arrangements with acquisition target client bases, and advised on employment issues, and intellectual property disputes.

Prior experience includes university technology experience and working in law firms.  Sanjay worked with the University of Toronto’s Technology Transfer Department, as part of a team managing over one (1) billion dollars of managed research, and grants funded science and technology projects.  Sanjay worked with a number of Canadian technology and intellectual property law firms.  His experience there includes general business law, litigation, contracts, licensing, technology related acquisitions, incorporations, medical device licensing, patent and trade-mark prosecution/strategy.  Represented clients included entrepreneurs, inventors, small, medium, large, and “super-sized” corporations – private and public.

Sanjay’s interests include charity, acting and filmmaking.  In 2010 Sanjay played the character Lysander in A Midsummer Nights Dream, in the charitable production Lawyers Show produced by Nightwood Theatre, Canada’s oldest professional women’s theatre company to raise money for said company.  Sanjay produced Getting Lucky, an Actra Co-op Production Short Film, shot in Toronto and New Orleans in 2005, and 2006, that showed in several film festivals.
